Bunyip Workshops
July, August & September
Bunyip Beads & Buttons Craft Classes are held in our lovely new workroom, next to The Real McCoy Arcade, a buttons throw away from the shop. Evening classes are held in the shop itself.
- Full day classes cost £45 and are from 10.30am-4 pm with 1 hour for lunch.
- Half day classes cost £25 - morning sessions from 10.30am-1pm and afternoon sessions from 1.30pm-4pm.
- Evening classes cost £20 and are from 5.45pm-7.45pm.
- Bunyip Kids classes are £15 and are for 1 and a half hours and are from 10.30am-12.
All our classes have a maximum number of 8 per class, booking is essential. We provide lots of lovely refreshments during the lessons. Prices include some materials. To book a place, call into the shop, phone 01392 437377 or email info@bunyipbeads.com, you will need to pay a deposit to secure your place. The deposit is £20 for a full day class, £10 for a half day or evening class and £5 for kids classes. The deposit can be paid by card over the phone or in the shop. Bunyip Junior - Classes for children aged 6-12
Bunyip Junior classes will be one off, small classes of up to 6 children. The classes are aimed at teaching children to make a number of items of jewellery including bracelets and necklaces. They are for children who would love to make jewellery but need a little bit of help and technical know-how. The classes are 1 and a half hours, with a snack break. All materials will be included. A parent or guardian must be close to hand during the lesson and contactable by mobile phone. Or they are welcome to join in and learn too!
Jewellery Making with Diana Gurr
Bracelets and necklaces can be very simple to make with a little help! This class is for children who would love to make jewellery, or who already do, but need a bit of help with the technical know how. Come and play with beads for a bit!

Fabric Monsters with Allison Gullige
Learn to make a monster, bag or cushion from felt and fabric. Simple straightforward sewing and sticking will turn a heap of fabric into a lovely ready to have item you will be proud of. £2 additional materials cost for this class.

Learn to make Friendship Bracelets with Dawn Andrews
Macrame, knotting thread to make beautiful patterned cord, is fun and simple to learn. Come and make colourful bracelets for you and your friends.

Make 'n' Take
Get creative and meet other beaders, all for less than the price of a night out!
* First Thursday of the month from 5-8pm and now NEW Saturday afternoon sessions from 1.30-4.30pm
* Bring a piece you want to finish, ask questions or learn a new technique.
* From beginner to experienced beaders all are welcome to this informal session.
* No need to book, just turn up and have some beading fun! Only £5 including a free drink!

Bunyip Jewellery Making Classes
Cat Frampton has been Bunyip's jewellery teacher for 3 years and has been working in the shop, almost, since it opened. All her classes are perfect for beginners or improvers.
Beaded Jewellery-Making Class: Full day
Over a full day come and learn a wide range of techniques and skills **. Starting with basic earring making and moving on to look at differing threads for necklace making. The afternoon is spent working on a project of your choice with help on hand as it's needed.

Button Jewellery-Making Class: Afternoon
Spend an afternoon in Bunyip's lovely workroom being shown how to make earrings and a necklace out of pretty, funky buttons. The skills you will learn can be used in all other jewellery making.

Beginner class: Evening
We begin by making a lovely pair of earrings using headpins and simple techniques. We move on to making a necklace, learning techniques that will help you with future jewellery-making. At the end of the session there is time to ask questions, start a new project or bring out work in progress that is causing you problems.
Dates: Tues 10th August, Thurs 9th Sept
Finishing Techniques: Evening
This class is aimed at people who already have some experience but want to finish pieces to a higher standard. You will learn about different threads; their strengths, weaknesses and which findings fit them. You will leave with a selection of reference threads with their findings so you can use them in your future designs. The session concludes with time for questions and problem solving.

Wirework Workshop: Evening
Learn how to turn a professionally wrapped-loop, a technique that makes finished jewellery much neater and more secure. We'll move onto using wire and beads to make a ring. This technique can be used for making all sorts of pieces. The session ends with time for questions and problem solving.

Seed Bead Necklaces with Jan Fly: Full Day
Come and learn how to use seed beads, a beading needle and thread. Weave tiny beads into a beautiful spiral necklace, using a simple pattern and straightforward technique with an experienced and patient teacher. All materials are provided.

Sewing Classes
Laura Mackrill is a talented costume designer for film and theatre, who since graduating from Wimbledon College of Art, has worked both in the UK and US on projects as varied as the London Children's Ballet production of Jayne Eyre and the Fairy Tale films made by the Chagford film-making group. She has taught workshops on costume and garment making in many places including The Barbican, London.
Re-modelling clothes to fit: Full Day
Learn how to take an item of clothing and re-model it to fit you! Working with items of clothing you bring (from dresses to corsets!) you will learn how to measure yourself correctly, how to deconstruct and then reconstruct clothing to those measurements, using a variety of different methods. Some material will be available but you will need to bring along an item of clothing to re-model. Please also bring a sewing kit containing scissors (small and large), seam un-picker, pins, safety pins (various sizes), notepad and a measuring tape. Do bring along your sewing machine if you would like.

Basic Pattern making: Full Day
Learn how to construct a basic pattern and how to alter/draft a pattern to fit your figure. You will learn how to construct clothing from a pattern and how to correctly measure your figure so it will fit! Pattern paper and instruction booklet will be provided. Please bring a sewing kit containing scissors (small and large), seam un-picker, pins, safety pins (various sizes), notepad and a measuring tape. Do bring along your sewing machine if you would like.

Embellish with Applique with Polly Butcher: Full Day
Bring in a item of clothing to embellish with fabric applique designs. By simply sewing fabric shapes to your clothes you can re-vamp your old, boring clothes! Materials for the applique will be provided.

Knitting Classes
Jane Stavert is a passionate knitter who co-owns 'Heavanly Yarns', Exeters newest knitting shop on Fore Street.
Beginners Knitting: Full Day
Learn the basics of knitting and start a love affair with yarn! Learn how to cast on and off and the basic stitches, along with how to read a basic pattern. By the end of the class you will be confident enough to start a project of your own with beautiful yarn from Heavnaly Yarns.

Basic Sock Knitting: Full Day
Sock Knitting can seem a dark art, let Jane unpick its mysteries for you! Top down sock knitting is straightforward, satisfying and practical. The pleasure you can get from making and then wearing an item of clothing is never to be underestimated. Join this class to find out for yourself!

If we do cancel your class we will return your deposit or move you to another class, whichever is more appropriate. * We require 14 days notice for cancellation, deposits cannot be refunded if less than 14 days notice is given. We will endeavour, in all eventualities, to deal fairly with any problems that may arise and in return expect to be dealt with fairly by you. * Bunyip Kids Classes: children attending must have an adult with them as they arrive, all absent parents/guardians will be required to provide contact details and must be in the vicinity of the arcade for the duration of the lesson. Children who misbehave during any lesson may be excluded from that and any other lesson without a refund being given.
